Painting a bedroom is one of the easiest ways to freshen it up in preparation of a home sale. The cost to paint a bedroom varies. It all depends on the square footage, the layout of the room, and the quality of paint that you choose.
How To Know How Much Paint To Buy
Get a good measurement of the surface area you will need to measure. So, take a tape measure and measure the height and length of each wall. To determine the surface area of that wall, you simply multiply those two numbers. If the wall has a large window, you can factor that in too. So,you just get the area of the window by multiplying the height and length of the window too. Then, simply subtract the area of the window from the area of the wall. That will give you the surface area of the wall. Repeat this process for all walls. Then, add the surface area together to determine the total surface area you will need to paint. A gallon of paint will typically cover 300 to 400 square feet.
Look For Bargains On Quality Paint
You can do a quick internet search to see the variety of paints that are out there. You’ll notice that prices range from $20 to $50 per gallon at the time of publication. Keep in mind, many home improvement stores and even Walmart, offer full gallons of mistints or returned paint at a huge bargain. You could find an entire gallon of paint for less than $5. I once found a five gallon can of quality white paint for $14 out the door. So, if you’re on a tight budget, it’s worth asking to see the returned paints.
Don’t forget to add in painting tools and supplies like painter’s tape, brushes, rollers, paint trays and a plastic drop cloth. It’s usually worth getting paint tray liners too. You can also find disposable paint rollers to use on ceilings that prevent paint from dripping down into your face for less than $4. These are incredibly handy. You can get a 2 foot straight edge to make the job easier too. Keep in mind, this tool is only helpful if you actually wipe it down before you move on to the next section. Otherwise, you’ll probably just make a bigger mess.
